Formally started in 2015, Blue Collar Soul is a small woodworking shop located in southwest Virginia. Blue Collar Soul started as a hobby for creating furniture for our house along with gifts for family and friends before turning into a side job to help promote woodworking as a hobby. Our woodworking styles are heavily influenced by popular themes central to Virginia including rustic, shaker, and mid-century modern with a contemporary twist.
The name Blue Collar Soul comes from our white collar backgrounds but a deep-seated love of working with our hands and as a homage to our family’s historic roots in Virginia and North Carolina.
Each project is given dedicated individual attention. As only being one person and having a small shop, it’s best to work on one project at a time with minimal overlap from other projects. This keeps the attention focused and the shop free from chaos. This special attention has also proven to increase quality because all I’ll think about is that one project and all the tooling is configured for that one project until its completion. This helps to keep consistency across all facets of the project.
We’ll work with you to iteratively develop a custom design. Intricate designs will be modeled in SketchUp that will be sent to you for approval. SketchUp is a 3D design tool often used for modeling creations. It aids in determining dimensions and helping to create a plan for the final assembly. This leads to increased accuracy, better use of materials, and shorter build times. (more…)
Full shop with all the power and hand tools needed to get the job done right the first time. Being able to convert dimensions rendered in SketchUp from computer to wood accurately, and quickly takes the horse power of power tools but the delicacy of hand tools.
Need to breathe new life into an old piece of furniture or word to help restore an existing building? We can help!

From the popular TV show Salvage Dawgs, Black Dog Salvage in Roanoke, VA has been a great resource for finding raw materials for our creations.
Habitat for Humanity ReStore of New River Valley. A great cause that helps to keep what would become trash out of the landfill and provides us with some great gems for our projects, especially when working on something with an old or vintage feel.
We’re looking for business opportunities, custom creations to build, and words of encouragement! Also be sure to like and follow Blue Collar Soul on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.
